An expo is an event where people get together to see lots of different kinds of horses, check out horsey products and learn lots of new skills by attending equine seminars.
If you are crazy about horses, you are guaranteed to love going to the many horse expositions and events that take place around the country every year. Leave your horse or pony at home, jump in the car (or airplane) and head for the equine expo that sounds the most interesting to you. What's an equine expo? It's a big event that usually takes place over several days. It's not a show. People don't compete against each other. An expo is an event in which people get together to see lots of different kinds of horses, check out horsey products and learn lots of new skills by attending equine seminars.
At last year's Equitana USA, you could pat a Paint Horse, meet a Miniature horse and talk to a Tennessee Walker. You could attend classes given by horsey celebrities like Pat Parelli, John Lyon and GaWaNi Pony Boy. You could buy lots of tack, riding clothes and grooming products. And if you felt like it, you could stop by the Young Rider booth and meet the team that puts together your favorite magazine!
How do you find out about horsey expos? Most advertise in horsey magazines, so be on the lookout for ads. You may also see expo signs up in a tack shop, or ads in your local newspaper. Once you decide you want to go to an event, call up and request a brochure with a schedule on it. Then you can find out how much it costs to go to the event, and what seminars you would like to attend. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy your ticket in advance, but you can always buy a ticket at the door.
