Want to bring your equestrian vibe everywhere you go? Make a horsey keychain to hold your house keys or add one to your backpack. These macrame crafts are sure to get the attention of your buddies. As a bonus, you can teach others how to make these fun keychains, too!
Materials
◆ 4mm macrame cord
◆ Embroidery thread
◆ Key rings
◆ Tape
◆ Scissors
◆ Beads (optional)
◆ Hair comb
Instructions
Step 1: Cut your macrame cord into 3 even pieces that are 45″ long.
Step 2: Secure your keychain to your work surface with tape. Tie each strand of cord to the keychain by folding the cord in half, taking the loop under and over the keychain, then pull the two strands through the loop. Separate your three cord sections and tape down the middle strand.
Step 3: Take the left section and place it over the center section (it will look like the number 4).
Step 4: Take the right section and place it over the end of the left section, put it under where the other two sections cross, and pull through the opening (over the curve of the 4 from the left section). Pull both ends tight.
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the right side, then continue alternating sides until you have reached your desired length.
Step 6: Take your embroidery thread and create a “U,” then wrap around the bottom a few times or more (you should still see the “U” underneath). Take the end through the “U” hoop and pull tight. Trim edges of embroidery thread.
Step 7: Cut your “tail” to the desired length and unravel each strand. Use a comb to separate the strands.
To Add Beads:
When adding the middle strand, include a long piece of embroidery thread the same length as your middle strand.
Complete steps 3 and 4 on each side, then slide your bead onto the embroidery thread. Repeat steps 3 and 4 and then add another bead. Continue this pattern until you reach the desired length.
Finish off your horsey keychain the same way you would without beads.
